Six fresh declarations, one clear signal
Congratulations to Mapei SpA. Between October 28 and October 31, 2026, six new Environmental Product Declarations from the Italian construction chemicals group showed up in the EC3 database. Some manufacturers would treat even one of those as a big moment. For Mapei it's the latest step in a steady run of publishing.
All six are single-product EPDs published under EPD International AB (the International EPD System). Each one follows PCR 2019:14 for construction products, version 1.3.3, aligned with EN 15804+A2. Every declaration also names a specific production location, so the data describes a real plant and not an average across the whole group.
What is inside the batch
The release covers two product stories. The first is Mapelastic, the two-component flexible cementitious mortar used to waterproof balconies, terraces, bathrooms and swimming pools. The new EPDs cover Mapelastic made in Spain and Mapelastic made in Hungary.
The second is the Mape-Antique restoration range, made in Spain:
- Mape-Antique MC, the cement-free, macro-porous, salt-resistant dehumidifying render based on lime and Eco-Pozzolan (two separate declarations, issued October 19 and October 23)
- Mape-Antique Restaura
- Mape-Antique Strutturale 15
The EPDs were issued between October 19 and 23, 2026, and appeared in EC3 within roughly one to two weeks. EC3 does not list a separate LCA consultancy for this batch. Mapei's Environdec listings usually name the company's own sustainability team as LCA accountable, and Mapei has said it became EPD Process Certified back in 2016 (Mapei, 2021).
A heavyweight that keeps adding depth
Mapei needs little introduction in tile, flooring, waterproofing and concrete repair. The group closed 2025 with consolidated turnover above €4.4 billion and operates in 59 countries through 92 subsidiaries with around 14,000 people (Mapei Consolidated Financial Statements, 2025).
Its EPD library is just as large. As of November 3, 2026, EC3 lists 570 current Mapei SpA EPDs, with 289 of them valid into 2031. In the weeks before this batch, Mapei also published plant-specific declarations for Mapegrout and Mapefill repair mortars in Spain, Mapelastic variants in Portugal, France and Austria, and tile adhesives such as Kerabond T and Granirapid. This batch slots straight into that pattern.

Why plant-specific EPDs matter
Think of a product EPD like a passport. A company-wide average is a group photo, while a plant-specific EPD is the photo that actually matches the traveler at the gate. Electricity grids, raw material sources and transport distances vary from Spain to Hungary, so a declaration tied to the real production site is the more defensible number in a project's carbon model.
This matters more in Europe every year. The revised EU Construction Products Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/3110) became applicable for most construction products on January 8, 2026 (EUR-Lex, 2024). It sets the framework for declaring environmental performance step by step. Manufacturers who already have verified, site-specific LCA data will be ready when those requirements reach their product family.
The competitive read: depth over new territory
This batch doesn't push Mapei into a new category. It goes deeper where Mapei already competes, adding Iberian and Central European production coverage for waterproofing and heritage restoration. That is a smart move, because a specifier in Madrid or Budapest gets more value from a declaration for locally made product than from one for an Italian plant hundreds of kilometers away.
The main rivals are active in the same space. Fellow Italian manufacturer Kerakoll S.p.A. holds 240 current EPDs in EC3, also under EPD International and the same PCR, and published its latest (Superflex) on October 26, 2026. The global Weber Saint-Gobain entity lists 222 current EPDs, including a broad "Rendering and Finishing Mortars" family EPD issued October 15, 2026. More on Weber's coverage in Denmark is in our Saint-Gobain Weber Denmark snapshot.
Sika is the third name in cementitious waterproofing. Its EPDs are split across national entities, with Sika Hellas holding a declaration for SikaTop Seal-107 FL-X, for example. Against that field, Mapei's single-product, plant-specific approach is more granular than family-level declarations. For Mapelastic in Spain and Hungary, that gives Mapei a real edge over competitors who only offer averaged data for the same application.
Restoration mortars: a niche where data is rare
Heritage restoration is a market where EPD coverage is still thin. Lime-based, cement-free renders like Mape-Antique MC go on historic masonry where conservation rules, moisture behavior and breathability drive product choice. Many of these projects are publicly funded, and public clients increasingly ask for embodied carbon reporting too.
When a design team must report carbon for a product without a product-specific EPD, it usually falls back on conservative generic values, sometimes with an added safety factor. That penalty makes undeclared alternatives look worse on paper. With four restoration declarations in this batch, Mapei makes it easy to choose its products without that penalty.
Visibility is the last mile
An EPD only helps sales if specifiers can find it. Mapei has strong EPD pages in some markets, such as the MAPEI Canada environmental product data hub. In our search, though, we could not find dedicated listings for these new Spanish and Hungarian production EPDs on the matching country sites or product pages. Linking each plant-specific declaration directly from the local product page would close that gap quickly.
The EC3 timing deserves credit as well. A gap of roughly one to two weeks between issuance and database listing is short, and every day saved helps specifiers who search EC3 in the middle of a bid. Keeping the transparancy streak going
Mapei still has housekeeping ahead: EC3 shows 23 Mapei SpA EPDs expiring in 2026 and 13 more in 2027. The group's steady publishing suggests renewals are planned, which our earlier look at Mapei fiber EPDs expiring in December 2026 also hinted at.
The bigger lesson for other manufacturers is simple. A batch of six plant-specific EPDs, published under a widely recognized operator and listed quickly in EC3, adds up over time. Every new declaration is one less spec where a rival can win on data alone, and Mapei keeps adding them.
