Expiry Watch: Ecophon EPDs due December 2026

Twelve Ecophon AB Saint‑Gobain EPDs are scheduled to lapse in December 2026. That timing matters. On projects that require current, product‑specific EPDs, a gap can push specifiers toward alternatives they can document today. Below we list the expiring declarations, note where fresh EPDs already exist, and flag where competitors are positioned to benefit if renewals slip.

Replacement EPDs already in market

Several ceiling and wall absorber lines above already have newer, longer‑run declarations that keep spec access intact:

  • Akusto and wall systems: Akusto Wall C ExtraBass variants show five‑year windows into 2029 on recent declarations. That maintains coverage for wall acoustic panels while the 2026 record sunsets (EPD International AB, 2024).
  • Combison: While “dB 42” lapses in December, recent Combison Duo A/E EPDs run to April 2029 and generally serve the same spec intent of combined sound insulation and absorption (EPD International AB, 2025).
  • Acoustic boards for plaster systems: Ecophon’s acoustic boards for fade have 2024 publications with validity to 2029 across common thicknesses, closing any near‑term gap on plaster backer boards (EPD International AB, 2024).

Where gaps may form if renewals slip

The Connect grid components listed for Dec 8, 2026 do not yet show replacement EPDs with 2027 or later windows in the public registries we reviewed. Suspension systems often sit on Division 09 submittal checklists alongside the tiles. If a project team requires current EPDs for both tiles and grid, this could create friction at closeout unless renewals are queued early.

Who stands to win the spec if a gap appears

If grid EPDs are still pending near bid day, specifiers will likely lean on ceiling systems with current declarations:

  • Armstrong suspension systems, including Prelude and Silhouette families, carry windows out to December 17, 2027 under ASTM program records (ASTM International, 2022).
  • USG Donn grid families post April 1, 2029 validity across several systems, providing clear runway for Division 09 submittals (ASTM International, 2024).
  • For absorber panels, Armstrong Optima and Lyra run to January 14, 2030 under ASTM, while Rockfon Mono Acoustic is listed through August 11, 2029 with EPD Norway. These keep acoustic performance options visible with current, third‑party documentation (ASTM International, 2025; EPD Norway, 2024).

If the Hygiene Advance ceiling does not receive a fresh declaration in time, healthcare and clean‑area specs may pivot to current “healthcare” or “clean room” absorbers from those same competitors until a replacement is posted.

Why this timing matters commercially

Most buyers do not track EPD vintage month by month during design. They do check validity at submittals. A lapsed grid or specialty absorber EPD can hold up approvals or invite substitutions at exactly the wrong moment. Renewals six to nine months ahead of expiry dates keep bids clean and prevent last‑minute detours that cost margin and mindshare.

For a quick primer on where specifiers actually look first for EPDs, see our explainer on EC3, the EPD data hub architects use.

What to do now if you manage these lines

Map each SKU family to its current declaration and set renewal targets backward from the December 2026 dates. Prioritize Connect grid records and Hygiene Advance, since those show the most exposure today. Line up verifiers early, gather fresh plant data, and make sure MasterFormat mapping and declared units are consistent so indexing into EC3 is quick when the new PDFs land. We’ve seen teams lose valuable time here for avoidable metadata fixes, which is annoying.

Bottom line for specifiers

The absorber side looks largely covered by newer Ecophon EPDs already running into 2029. The risk is concentrated in suspension assemblies and the Hygiene Advance surface. Until renewal PDFs post, Armstrong and USG system EPDs are the most likely detours to appear in Division 09 spec sections given their current windows (ASTM International, 2022; ASTM International, 2024). Keep an eye on Ecophon’s reporting hub for new postings and swap sheets early if a current declaration is required under LEED v5 procurement rules.

We’ll keep watching this cluster as December 2026 approaches so you can keep your specs clean and your submittals fast.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which specific Ecophon EPDs are expiring in December 2026?

Twelve records show December 2026 end dates, including Hygiene Advance; Akusto Wall C Extra Bass; Combison dB 42; two Acoustic boards for fade listings; and seven Connect grid items: T15 Grid System, T24 Grid System, T24 Grid System C3, T24 Grid System C4, Angle Trims C1/C3/C4, Channel & Shadow line trims, and a Shadow‑line trim variant.

Are replacements in place for these products?

Yes for most absorbers. Recent Akusto, Combison Duo A/E, and fade acoustic board EPDs run to 2029 (EPD International AB, 2024–2025). Grid components with Dec 8, 2026 expiries did not show newer postings in the public registries reviewed as of Apr 20, 2026.

If there’s no current Ecophon EPD for a grid, what will specifiers do?

They often pivot to current, comparable systems. Armstrong Prelude/Silhouette are valid to Dec 17, 2027 and USG Donn families to Apr 1, 2029, which keeps documentation simple on Division 09 submittals (ASTM International, 2022; ASTM International, 2024).

Does a PCR update make existing EPDs invalid before their own expiry?

No. EPDs typically remain valid until their declared end date. The next renewal must follow the active PCR at that time (EPD International GPI, 2024). For renewal tips, see our guide: [Keep Your EPD Alive](https://epd.guide/epd-creation/keep-your-epd-alive-validity-and-updates).
