Hjelle AS seating EPDs nearing 2027 expiry

Two Hjelle seating declarations are approaching end of validity in 2027. Our check on May 20, 2026 finds the expiring items are Ami Sofa and Kavai chair, both still active through late Q3 2027, not January. That keeps specs open for current projects, yet creates a renewal window that should be worked now so sales teams do not face avoidable substitution on EPD‑required bids later this year and next.

What’s expiring and when

Hjelle has two seating EPDs coming due in 2027. The Ami Sofa EPD is valid until September 28, 2027 (EPD Norway, 2022). The Kavai Stol EPD is valid until September 30, 2027 (EPD Norway, 2022). If you heard January 2027, that was likely a data sync artifact. The dates above are taken from the operator‑approved PDFs.

Are replacements already live?

We see no newer or superseding EPDs for Ami or Kavai as of May 20, 2026. Hjelle does have other active seating EPDs that remain valid well beyond 2027, including multiple Ada variants and the OK Office chair series that run to January 29, 2030 (EPD Norway, 2025). Those, however, do not cover Ami or Kavai.

If renewals lag, what will specifiers pick instead?

For EPD‑required projects, comparable seating with current, product‑specific EPDs will be favored. Examples in the same broad categories:

  • Sofas for lobby and lounge settings
    • Fora Form Senso 3 seat sofa valid to June 19, 2029 (EPD Norway, 2024)
    • NC Nordic Care Humlan two‑seater valid to July 8, 2029 (EPD Norway, 2024)
  • Lounge or club chairs
    • Helland Møbler Tidal Lounge Chair valid to April 30, 2030 (EPD Norway, 2025)

All three are published under EN 15804 and are straightforward substitutions on projects that insist on current EPDs.

Commercial impact in plain terms

When an EPD lapses, the product often falls off shortlists in public and corporate work that scores materials on verified disclosures. Teams are then forced into concessions on price or into value‑engineering swaps. Keeping declarations current protects margin and keeps the sales pipeline warm rather than cold.

Timing matters more under LEED v5

LEED v5 materially weights product‑specific EPDs in materials credits. If Ami or Kavai go dark for even a quarter, project teams may record higher default impacts for your scope which makes selection harder. That’s avoidable with a renewal that lands before September 2027.

Renewal playbook that saves time

Start now so the October calendar does not do the negotiating for you.

  1. Confirm the governing Part B and any revisions. Pick the PCR your competitors use so results are comparable in context.
  2. Lock the reference year, then pull plant data once. A tight, well‑labeled data packet avoids weeks of back‑and‑forth and keeps verification clean.
  3. Decide on operator and format early. Digital datasets plus the PDF accelerate EC3 listing and spec library updates.
  4. Reuse what’s stable. Only refresh processes and suppliers that changed since the last study.

Where to find Hjelle’s current EPDs and policy

Hjelle’s product pages host several EPD downloads, for example the Ada series page lists multiple chair variants with current declarations. See Ada here and download links within the page (lkhjelle.no/product/ada-series/). Their environmental policy is here for broader context on targets and certifications (https://lkhjelle.no/environmental-policy/).

What this means for specifiers and bid teams

You can confidently specify Ami and Kavai through September 2027. If no renewal appears by mid‑summer, shortlist a back‑up from the options above and document the switch so nothing slips in submittals. If a fresh EPD is published before then, simply update the spec section reference and you’re good to go. It’s a small move that avoids big, last‑minute noise. And it’s definately less stressful than scrambling during tender.
