CBI Europe: one EPD hits March 2027

CBI Europe has one product-group EPD due to expire in March 2027. For manufacturers, eight months is both a cushion and a clock. If a renewal is not posted before the date, projects filtering for current declarations under LEED v5 will default to competitors with valid listings. The fix is simple: confirm the right PCR, lock reference-year data, and line up verification early. Below is the brief specifiers actually need, plus where they may pivot if a gap appears.

What is expiring and when

CBI Europe has a product‑group EPD covering resilient floor coverings (LVT and SPC families) that reaches its validity end in March 2027. The declaration follows EN 15804 A2 with the floor‑coverings c‑PCR based on EN 16810, published under The International EPD System. That c‑PCR remains applicable today and is listed with validity to April 8, 2030 (EPD International c‑PCR‑004, 2025).

Scope at a glance

The EPD aggregates core ranges and formats common in commercial fit‑outs: click and glue‑down LVT, plus rigid SPC constructions. Typical cradle‑to‑gate scope with selected end‑of‑life modules, European manufacturing and distribution scenarios, and acoustic underlays where declared. Think office refreshes and high‑traffic public interiors where clean documentation trims weeks of back‑and‑forth.

Replacement status today

As of July 20, 2026, we do not yet see a newer CBI Europe floor‑coverings EPD posted in the main public operator libraries we monitor. CBI’s own overview pages confirm broad EPD coverage across metal ceilings, wood systems, and raised access floors, and they maintain an EPD explainer for specifiers on their site. Teams can track updates here: CBI Europe EPD page and product libraries on metal and wood systems.

Will specifiers lose access?

Not immediately. Until the March 2027 date, the document is valid and usable on submittals. The risk starts on the first tender after the expiry when owners or LEED v5 checklists filter for current, product‑specific EPDs. That is when a conservative default factor shows up in the carbon model and the product can get swapped out.

If a gap appears, likely pivots

Specifiers tend to stay in category. For resilient floor coverings with current EPDs, we expect activity around:

  • Forbo Eternal PVC collections with EPD validity visible to May 7, 2030 (Forbo, 2026).
  • Tarkett vinyl floor ranges listed in the International EPD System under A2 rules, with current issues active in 2024–2026 cycles for multiple collections (EPD International, 2026).
  • Gerflor Creation 55/70 LVT, documented with an EN 15804 A2 EPD and widely referenced in EU specs (Gerflor, 2024).

These are not endorsements. They are the practical, in‑spec alternatives teams reach for when an expiring declaration would otherwise slow approval.

What to do now (manufacturer playbook)

Treat March 2027 as the line in the sand. Lock your reference year, confirm the c‑PCR alignment, and schedule third‑party verification while plants are compiling utility and volume data. A four‑to‑six month runway keeps you out of the red zone. If formats or assemblies changed since the last issue, factor time for additional modeling and test evidence.

Why the timing matters commercially

EPDs typically carry a five‑year validity. That number only matters twice: when you publish and when you are within a few quarters of expiry. Spec teams rarely prefer a brand‑new EPD over a two‑year‑old one, but they do avoid expired ones. A current, product‑specific declaration helps teams claim the right credit under LEED v5 without default penalties. That is real pipeline protection.

A quick PCR note

The floor‑coverings c‑PCR under EN 16810 is active and recognized for EN 15804 A2 EPDs, so renewals against this rulebook remain straightforward for EU‑market products (EPD International c‑PCR‑004, 2025). If product changes are material, plan a data refresh rather than a straight reprint.

Close‑out: keep the lane clear

CBI Europe’s March 2027 floor‑coverings EPD is a small item with outsized impact. Keep it current, feed it clean data, and publish on time. Your specability stays high, your sales team keeps momentum, and projects dont scramble for last‑minute substitutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which PCR and standard does the expiring EPD reference?

EN 15804 A2 with the floor‑coverings c‑PCR based on EN 16810 under The International EPD System. The c‑PCR shows validity to April 8, 2030 (EPD International c‑PCR‑004, 2025).

Do we need a completely new LCA model for renewal?

Not necessarily. If processes, energy mix, or product composition changed meaningfully since the last reference year, you should re‑model. If not, a refreshed dataset and updated verification often suffices.

Will a brief EPD gap stop bids cold?

Owners and LEED v5 reviewers vary. Some accept a near‑term renewal letter, others require an in‑date EPD. Avoid risk by renewing well before March 2027.
