Ceramic tile EPD volume, five years in view

Across Europe there are 193 currently valid ceramic tile EPDs from 55 manufacturers. Momentum peaked in 2022 and tapered as teams finished A2 migrations and consolidated portfolios. Here is the release curve that matters for planning.

YearEPDs issued
202110
202289
202359
202430
20255

That spike in 2022 reflects widespread moves to EN 15804 A2 rule sets and national additions, especially in France. The long tail in 2023 and 2024 suggests ongoing portfolio coverage rather than first time sprints.

Where these EPDs are published, and what it signals

Program operator usage shows two centers of gravity. INIES accounts for 90 tile EPDs across 18 manufacturers, a strong signal for projects influenced by French requirements. EPD International AB hosts 74 EPDs across 28 manufacturers, the broadest manufacturer diversity and a pan European footprint. EPD Hub has 17 EPDs across 4 manufacturers, a smaller but growing cluster. EPD Italy has 8 across 5 manufacturers, IBU has 2 across 2, ift Rosenheim has 1, and there is a single declaration with no operator listed.

Why this matters commercially. Choice of operator impacts format, languages, and reviewer availability, which rolls up into speed and ease during publication. It does not change the underlying LCA burden numbers for the same PCR and model, yet it can influence how quickly a sales team gets credible documents into specs.

The manufacturers field, at a glance

Tile heavyweights are investing, and the middle tier is catching up. Leaders by current EPD count include PAMESA GRUPO EMPRESARIAL S.L.U with 24, KERABEN GRUPO with 18, NEWKER with 17, VitrA Karo with 9, and Ceramiche Atlas Concorde with 8. A broad set of Spanish and Italian brands hold between one and six declarations each, from Mirage Granito Ceramico to PORCELANOSA and Royal Mosa. The pattern fits a familiar playbook, flagship ranges covered first, then popular formats, then niche sizes.

PCR choices competitors actually used

You will see two layers. Core rules based on EN 15804 A2 and product specific rules for ceramic tiles. Frequent selections are the French national additions to NF EN 15804 with 62 EPDs, the EN 15804 A2 construction products PCR family in EPD International with 38 EPDs, and the tile specific c PCR 002 based on EN 17160 with two clusters, 18 and 11 EPDs respectively. EPD Italy Part B references for ceramic tiles and panels appear too, smaller volume but present.

What this means for a new declaration. If peers target France, expect NF EN 15804 national additions and reviewers familiar with that context. If the portfolio aims across markets, c PCR 002 or the EPD International A2 family are common routes that preserve comparability with a large share of the field.

Renewals and expiry pressure, 2026 to 2030

Renewal timing is not academic, it is a resourcing problem. Here is the visible wave in Europe.

2026 has 15 expiries, a light year. 2027 is the crunch with 87 expiries, driven by NF EN 15804 A1 national additions and earlier A2 adoptions that come due together. 2028 softens to 56. 2029 shows 30. 2030 has 5 and includes several c PCR 002 tile EPDs with far future dates, a relief valve for teams that moved later.

Practical takeaway. If your key markets overlap with the 2027 cohort, begin scoping data collection now, then plan reviewer time early. Teams that start three to six months late tend to freeze launches or slice scope, neither helps sales.

Proof of recent activity

The latest European tile EPD we see was issued on Oct 24, 2025. Product, Mirage ReSource Porcelain Stoneware 8 mm thick. Manufacturer, Mirage Granito Ceramico. Program operator, EPD Hub. PCR, c PCR 002 Ceramic tiles based on EN 17160. Expiry, Oct 24, 2030. That is a healthy runway for project use and a good example of current rule picks.

EPD consultants are the norm, not the exception

128 of the 193 tile EPDs were published with the help of an external EPD consultant or service provider. That is two thirds of the field relying on specialists to gather data, model impacts, and steer reviews. If speed and completeness are priorities, this is the shortest path. Parq is one such provider, pairing a white glove data collection team with a purpose built platform that removes internal bottlenecks, then publishing with the operator you prefer in Europe, often IBU or INIES, or elsewhere as needed (Parq). We do not post price lists, fees are scoped to the work.

Operator strategy, simplified

If France is material to your revenue, publishing through INIES aligns format and language with specifier expectations. If you need broad comparability across many countries, EPD International AB remains a safe default with strong reviewer depth and wide acceptance. EPD Hub is emerging for tiles and can work well when c PCR 002 is the rule of record. EPD Italy is credible for Italy centered portfolios and brand alignment.

Notably absent or light presences in Europe

As of Jan 16, 2026, some well known names appear underrepresented in the European ceramic tile category snapshot. Florim and Iris Ceramica Group both show current tile EPDs. RAK Ceramics shows no current European tile EPD. ABK Group and Casalgrande Padana do not appear in the current, European tile set we analyzed. If any of these organizations published since late 2025, it may simply not have surfaced in the public aggregation yet.

How to choose the PCR with confidence

Use the competitive set as your north star. Map the top three direct rivals for each range, note their PCR and operator, then decide whether to match or leapfrog. When a product specific rule exists, pick it, when it does not, credible A2 construction product PCRs keep you moving and spec ready. A great partner will make data gathering painless and deliver a dependable model that your team can defend. That is the whole game.

Why this matters for specs and sales

Architects and contractors do carbon accounting on projects. If a product lacks a product specific EPD, they often must use conservative defaults that make substitution more likely. Having a current EPD removes that penalty, keeps your range in contention, and reduces how often deals pivot to price. Even one mid sized project can cover the cost of producing a high quality EPD, which is why timing matters more than theoretical perfection.

A quick personal note and how to get the full dataset

This article is based on the global public registry of EPDs most specifiers use, plus our own categorization of ceramic tile in Europe. Because of loading delays, activity in the last half of 2025 may not be fully captured. If you want the full, up to date background dataset or a sanity check on PCR fit for your next EPD, connect with me on LinkedIn and send a message, I am happy to help and to hop on a quick call for free (Toby Urff). I can definately share operator distributions, expiry curves, and peer selections for your exact niche.
